About The Camp
Maetaman Elephant camp is located in Maetaman Village in Mae Taeng District of Chiangmai. It has an area of 32 rai (12.7 acres). This camp was established by Khun Ampaiphan Thabthong. We have around 257 staff, 60 bamboo rafts and 27 ox carts which are ready to welcome Thai and foreign tourists. It has been open for tourists to visit and join activities with the well trained elephants since August 17, 1987 which back then only had 10 elephants but right now has around 60 elephants to serve everyone who comes to watch the elephant performances and ride the elephants.
Here at the camp we treat our elephants as another family member. Our first priorities are to make sure that our elephants are healthy and safe. We have been working on giving the opportunity for those people who would like to take care of the elephants by allowing them to come and volunteer. Volunteers have been joining us here at the camp for over 6 years.
